Location: Aldgirth to Dumfries

The Auldgirth to Dumfries stretch of the River Nith is a fantastic introduction to moving water while also being a good trip for spotting local wildlife including Kingfishers and Otters. With a Grade 1 / 2 classification, this section of the river is generally straightforward to navigate – making it an excellent choice for beginners.

In addition to the wildlife, the river has several small rapids that are easy to navigate and suitable for beginners. The majority of the river is slow-moving and provides plenty of opportunities to take in the scenery and relax.

Important Note: There are currently a couple of trees in two of the rapids – these can be avoided or if unsure portaged around.
