As part of the SCA Big Paddle Cleanup 2023 we’re heading to Borness Bay / Ringdoo Bay to collect the litter that’s washed up and blown there.
We are borrowing some kit from the Solway Firth Partnership (Litter pickers, hoops for bags and a sharps bag).
Please bring a pair of heavy-duty gloves for adequate protection.
The Council is providing us with appropriate bin bags and we will be taking the rubbish back with us to a designated point (To be confirmed by the Council).

It’s likely to still be hot so bring plenty of water with you, suncream, insect repellant, sun hat, hand sanitiser and a picnic lunch or a snack to keep you going. Note there is a shop at Brighouse Bay Holiday Park and a Bistro.
Low tide is around 12pm. High Tide 5:40pm
Those of us with suitable boats can paddle round from Brighouse Bay – Borness bay itself is a rocky shell beach. Looking at it, I don’t think we will have a problem landing but we will have to pull boats up so they don’t get washed away as the tide comes in. Expect to carry some rubbish back with us.

Those of us who don’t have a suitable boat, would prefer a walk or if the weather isn’t favourable for paddling can walk the core path 175 from Brighouse Bay.
The start of the walk is detailed here : https://info.dumgal.gov.uk/Core…/Walking/Brighouse-Bay.pdf
If walking to get to Borness Bay you need to continue along the coastal path where it splits at Borness Point. You will need appropriate footwear – the ground is uneven and there are two bits which go through thick gorse – passable with care.
Be aware the footpath goes along the top of cliffs and care must be taken not to get too close to the edge.
We will probably need to carry the filled rubbish bags back to a designated point – Council to confirm where.
Let me know if you can join or if you have any questions or even suggestions to modify the plan.
